What would this education do to me? And what was I to do with it? (Cary 5)
Americans love freedom and seek ways to expand it for themselves and for others. As a basic tenet of American culture, our writes have explored the concept for generations. What is freedom? What internal and external factors limit freedom? How can I expand freedom for myself and others? These questions are explored by Mark Twain in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and 150 years later by Lorene Cary in her memoir Black Ice. Examine these issues for yourself by participating in this wiki project while we study and discuss Black Ice.
For this collaboration, you will work as a class group to discuss Black Ice. In your group discussions, you will review important themes, examine writing techniques, and share your personal reactions to the novel. Having studied literature for this long, you are well prepared to "fly from the nest" on your own and examine a piece of literature independently.
Note: You will make contributions to your individual page to complete homework preparation and to the class page if you are the notetaker for the day.
To prepare for your small group discussion, you will complete one of the following jobs for homework:
- Discussion Director
- Literary Luminary
- Connector
- Vocabulary Enricher
