In chapter four Lorene Carey is talking to one of her friends about the different sports they are participating in. Jimmy tells Lorene that he is doing cross-country simply because it would be easier than football or soccer "cross-country'll be fun. Nice little run through the woods..." -Jimmy. I connected this part of the book to the beginning of sophomore year when i was choosing my fall sport. My freshman year i did soccer and i didn't enjoy it, i thought there was too much running. Not knowing much of the sport i expected short 1 mile races every weekend. Just like Jimmy I underestimated the sport of cross-country and expected a nice little run through the woods. I soon learned that cross country consisted of 5 mile practices every day and 3 mile races every weekend. Lorene tries to warn Jimmy of cross-country but he doesn't listen. i wish i had a Lorene to warn me of cross-country.
